In 2001, I attended an event in which Robin Williams was being interviewed. Eventually he abandoned the formal interview and began to brilliantly improvise for the audience. We were all in tears from laughing. His genius was astounding. At the end of the program, he came down to the front row, where I was, to greet us. He was very humble as he did this, a huge shift in energy from the person who had just dominated a stage masterfully. He was seeking approval as he looked us in the eye and shook our hands.
A great gift that we can offer each other is acknowledgment. To see and hear each other. To validate each other.
Here is a prayer:
“Thank you, Mother/Father God for being strong and present with every single person on the planet right now. Thank you for each of us knowing how much we matter and how important we all are. Thank you for intervening in the lives of any of us who feel their options being diminished, or who feel invisible. Thank you supporting all of us right now during this time of profound change on the planet. Thank you for flooding us all with an open-heart perspective of the countless ways that we are all unified, rather than a narrow focused fixation on differences. We recognize that we are being asked to change. Thank you for helping us embrace new ways of being peaceful and content in the world, as well as new ways of connecting with each other. We ask for this, or something better. Thank you.”
